Fort William welcomed its eighth cruise ship of the season when the MS World Navigator arrived in town on the morning of Sunday May 26.
The 9934-tonne, 196-passenger vessel stayed in harbour until the evening, with those disembarking paying visits to Glencoe, Aonach Mor, and Neptune’s Staircase on the Caledonian Canal.
An Australian couple took a taxi to Glenfinnan, while two retired US federal agents enjoyed a round at Fort William Golf Club.
To welcome the visitors, Captain Joaquim Augusto Enxuga Neto and Staff Captain Antonio Pedro Do Brito Dias were greeted by members of the Fort William Marina and Shoreline Community Interest Company (FWMSCIC) and Highland Councillor Andrew Baldry, who offered gifts of Ben Nevis whisky, a jar of honey, and an owl-shaped beeswax candle alongside a handwritten card.
The captain also received shortbread donated by Nevis Bakery.
Although World Navigator, which is operated by Atlas Ocean Voyages, had previously visited Fort William in 2022, this was the first visit for the captain, who thanked the volunteers who met the passengers and crew, and commented on the usefulness of the sector light that had helped him enter upper Loch Linnhe.
Fort William’s cruise season will run until mid-September, with most vessels scheduled for this month. The largest ship due to arrive is the 28856-tonne Amadea on August 20, which is capable of carrying 624 passengers and 292 crew.
