Inveraray woman Sandra Naisby was attempting to withdraw money from the RBS cash machine on January 22, and it duly gave her back the bank card and issued a receipt. The machine failed, though, to give out any notes.
The Inveraray RBS branch closed on December 31 and Sandra is concerned her ATM problems might be a sign of things to come.
She said: 'I have had my first negative experience of having no bank facilities in Inveraray. It was quite distressing when you have no human contact.
'Is this the future for Inveraray?'
A spokesman for the bank responded: 'Unfortunately a technical fault with our ATM on January 22 affected banking services for customers.
'We have fully reimbursed the customer and apologise for any inconvenience the fault caused.
'Banking services for Royal Bank customers are facilitated through the local Post Office branch.'
