A man appeared so intoxicated that a member of bar staff at a town centre pub walked him to a taxi rank to get home but he then decided to forego the taxi and drove himself instead.
The April sitting of Campbeltown Sheriff Court heard the 25-year-old crashed the vehicle on the B842, south of Carradale, on September 3 last year.
Craig Spurr, of Cheviot Gardens, had been working as a pharmacist at a local pharmacy at the time of the incident. He admitted driving a motor vehicle while unfit through drink.
His defence agent Derek Buchanan said: “His recollection is extremely limited. He accepts the facts but has no recall of the accident itself.”
Procurator fiscal depute Raeesa Ahmed said that officers found Spurr with “a significant amount of blood on his face” as a result of the accident and an ambulance was called; there had been no one else in the car.
Earlier that evening, Spurr had been taken to the taxi rank in Campbeltown, she told the court.
Sheriff Euan Cameron told Spurr: “You are an educated man and, more than anyone, you understand the impact of your decision.”
Spurr was banned from driving for two years but this can be reduced if he completes the drink driver rehabilitation scheme at his own expense. He was also fined £1,200 with a victim surcharge of £75.
