Police pledge investigation of Ballet West allegations

Police Scotland has officially confirmed it is investigating a series of allegations made against a member of staff at Ballet West.

 

It follows a high-profile investigation by ITV News which featured claims of alleged inappropriate behaviour towards students at the prestigious family-run Taynuilt school, which was founded in 1991.

 

In a short statement, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Police have now received a number of reports which will be thoroughly investigated.

 

'Police Scotland is committed to bringing sexual offenders before the courts and treat all reports of sexual abuse with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity.

 

'Anyone wishing to report any kind of sexual offence should call us on 101 or 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.'

 

The ballet school’s board of trustees has appointed Dr Kirsty Hood, QC, to lead an independent, external inquiry into the allegations.

 

This week it urged anyone who feels they have cause for complaint to make their concerns known to the police or the Ballet West board at board@balletwest.ac.uk so it can be dealt without delay.
