Local schools showed off their immense shinty talent when the competed in National Qualifiers over two days in Primary 4/5 category and P6/7 categories.
The winners of each section will now progress to represent the area in the finals against schools from across the Highlands at the end of the month.
The younger section was played at Lochaber High School on Friday February 7 with the older group in the Nevis Centre the following day.
Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar (BSGLA) won the P4/5 section, sweeping the board with no losses or conceding a single goal throughout the tournament against teams from Caol, Lundavra, Ballachulish, Banavie and Inverlochy.
On Saturday, nine local P6/7 teams played in Lochaber’s qualifying round of the National Indoor shinty tournament at the Nevis Centre. Teams from Ardnamurchan, Ballachulish, Banavie, BSGLA, Caol, Inverlochy, Lundavra, Spean Bridge and Invergary/Kichumein took part.
Each team had to play all the others, so there were 35 five minute matches in total. Claire Delaney, from Highlife Highland organised the event and refereed all the games, with help from Maisie Ewing and Connor Campbell, who kept scores.
There were lots of great young players, some really good teams and some very competitive matches. Caol won all of their games, scoring 28 goals and conceding only two, so are taking the trophy back to school for the second year running.
Both teams now proceed to the National Indoor Finals in the Nevis Centre on February 28.
