It’s only two weeks till Oban-based Spotlight Musical Theatre Group brings their latest production to the Corran Halls stage.
The heartwarming musical Sunshine on Leith will open on Wednesday March 5 until Saturday March 8 at 7.30pm each night.
The musical, written by Stephen Greenhorn in 2007 for the Dundee Rep Ensemble, features the songs of The Proclaimers. It was later developed into a successful film in 2013 starring Jane Horrocks and Peter Mullan.
Spotlight Publicity Officer, Ellie Cooper, said “There are so many classic Proclaimers songs such as Letter from America, 500 Miles and I’m On My Way, as well as the heartfelt title song that are interwoven into the show to unfold the story. There’s something for everyone and it’s a little different from shows we have done in the past, which is a great challenge for us. Also, who doesn’t love the Proclaimers?!”.
The show follows two friends Ally and Davy, returning from a military tour in Afghanistan. Ally reconnects with his girlfriend Liz but they seem to have different ideas of what the future might hold. Davy begins a romance with Yvonne but when life gets complicated is love enough to see them through? Davy’s parents Rab and Jean are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary, but their relationship is tested when Rab’s past secrets emerge.
The show follows these three couples through the ups-and-downs of their lives together and the importance of family throughout it all. The question is, how far would you walk for the people and places you love?
The cast (all from the Oban area) have probably done more than 500 miles (and then maybe another 500 more) during rehearsals which started in September last year.
