Easterhouse FA 4
WOSFL – Fourth Division
The Campbeltown Pupils welcomed Easterhouse Football Academy, currently third in the West of Scotland Football League, to Kintyre Park last Saturday, with the visitors consolidating their promotion place with a well-deserved 4-0 victory.
They were up against an injury-ravaged Pupils squad, with Scott Souden the latest player to join the growing list with a knee injury.
Despite the disjointed line-up, the home players put on a battling performance against a very good side.
The Achilles heel of losing early goals through unforced efforts continued in the sixth minute, when a poor clearance landed at the feet of Alessandro Ventisei to score past the helpless Pupils keeper Alasdair Ferguson.
Easterhouse doubled their lead in the 24th minute, when a header was acrobatically saved by Ferguson but Ventisei followed up to score into the unguarded net.
A penalty awarded in the 31st minute gave Ventisei the opportunity to complete his hat trick, but Ferguson pulled off a fantastic diving save but, once again, it was an Easterhouse player, Ross Clarke, who was quickest to react to score.
This gave the Pupils a mountain to climb in the second half and an unfair red card for Lee Allen made the attempt to get something from the match nearly impossible for the hosts.
The Pupils carved a few chances and individual efforts from Finlay Bainbridge and Calum Ellis kept the visitors’ defence on their toes, until they finally sealed the match with Cameron Scott netting to complete the scoring.
The Pupils can take plenty of positives from the match, with lots of young players in the starting line-up. The team never gave up and battled to the end, encouraged by a good home support.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Kello Rovers make the long journey from Dumfries and Galloway to Kintyre.
The Kirkconnel side are currently in fourth place in the division and chasing a promotion place. The match kicks off at 2pm.
