A protest has been planned in Craignure tomorrow to call for ’Equity of Education’ after Argyll and Bute Council decided to pursue Tobermory as the site of the new Mull Campus.
The Council is hosting a community drop-in event to provide information on the controversial visitor levy at Craignure Village Hall from 11.30am until 3pm.
Protestors plan to gather as the event is ending, and stay for an hour.
The group, dissatisfied that their voices have not been listened to by councillors, will protest peacefully to show how they feel about the council’s decision.
They are campaigning under the hashtag #MullCampusForAll, wanting to unite the North and South of Mull through the school.
All are welcome to join.
One of the protest organisers told us: "Argyll and Bute Council are already holding a consultation event on the island, and given the lack of consultation on the school, we felt this is a great opportunity to show the council officers how they are doing.
"This is really about children and families, so the timing isn’t great, as children won’t be able to come."
Campaigners on Mull have repeatedly called for a split-site campus, with Primary and Early Learning Education in Tobermory and a High School in Craignure.
Last week, they called for the decision making process to be paused to give officers time to fully investigate this option. These calls were backed by local MSP Jenni Minto.
