With Martyn Cameron just back from a visit to Dalkeith to play against the professionals he was eager to get back to winning ways at the latest round of the ADC Scotland regional darts event held in Sunny’s Bar on Monday March 17.
The Fort William player lost out at the Group Stage in Dalkeith after Losing only to Modus Super Series star Andy Davidson and Scotland player Stuart Wares.
In his defeat to Wares, Cameron averaged over 97 but his more experienced opponent averaged more than 112.
Speaking after the event Cameron said: “It was a very valuable lesson.
“I had hoped to get them two in the draw as I wanted to pit myself against the best. Unfortunately, I came a cropper but I have taken many lessons away with me”.
Back to the Monday night action and it was another full house competing for the 32 available points. Making it out of the groups were a few new faces, Calum Neil on his second appearance climbed the local table after a run to the semi-final while Ben Mackinnon, also on his second outing, managed a quarter-final finish.
Defeated quarter-finalists: Ben Mackinnon; Campbell Burnett Jnr; Campbell Burnett Snr; Ross MacMillan.
In the semi-finals performance of the night went to Evan Atkinson with a 88.41 average and 3-0 rout of young flinger, James MacRaild.
MacRaild, one of the youngest chucker’s on a Monday night has now made it to three semi-finals in a row.
The second semi-final was contested by Cameron who ended Neil’s run by 3 legs to 0. That may have sounded like a one-sided affair, but underdog Neil pushed his experienced opponent in every leg.
So it was Cameron v Atkinson for the third final in six weeks. This shows both lads are throwing as consistently as one another but again it was the experience and power scoring from Cameron that got him over the line with a 100 first 9 average, 50% on the doubles and a 180 in the final to run out 3-0 winner.
Cameron now has his sights set on the Regional Finals in Dundee on Saturday April 12. Even with one more league night left he has confirmed his position in the top 32 players on the ADC Scotland table, sitting in eighth place despite having played in the least events.
