Football has featured prominently with Arran High School’s Active Schools co-coordinator Ross Dobson organising football teams from Auchenharvie Academy to come to the island to play a series of football matches.
Mr Dobson said: “It was a fantastic day in the sun with three of our school teams involved.
"It is rare to have teams visit the island so thanks to Auchenharvie for making the journey.
"It was an amazing atmosphere for our footballers getting to play a game at the school with their peers coming along to support as well.
“I would like to thank our coaches Martin McCartney, Graham Wilks and Graeme Johnston, not just for their efforts on the day, but for all their hard work at training throughout the year.
"I would also like to thank Stephen Wallace for stepping in at the last minute to referee the boys' match; his definition of offside seemed pretty loose at times but he was certainly consistent.”
In addition to the ever-popular football, outdoor specialist Andy McNamara from Otter’s Tail involved S2 maths pupils in a numeracy/problem solving health and wellbeing afternoon.
Pupils enjoyed the chance to work in groups and enhance their teamwork and logical thinking skills with a number of fun and challenging activities.
Allan Wilson, principal teacher of maths and numeracy explained that the level of engagement highlighted just how much the pupils enjoyed the task.
He said: “I was delighted to see the pupils enjoying themselves so much, working together and using their great ideas to succeed in their tasks.
"I don’t know if they realised that they were actually using the numeracy skills and initiative required to continue to do well in maths, but they did! I would like to thank Andy and his team for organising such an enjoyable afternoon.”
Another popular outdoor activity has been the wider achievement horticulture class run by principal teacher of science, Janet Logan.
Staff and pupils have enjoyed getting outside in the garden in the nice weather and have been developing their knowledge and skills in ideal conditions.
The full results of the football matches are as follows:
S2/3 boys won 10-1. Scorers were Louis Ross, Freddie Lucas, James Hackett, Thomas Morgan-Lee, Alfie Gilmour and Kacper Batyra.
A special mention goes to Jamie Ferguson and Brandon Kane for an exceptional performance in defence.
S2/3 girls won 9-0. A fantastic performance from all in the team. S4/5 girls won 3–0. A tough game but goals from Ruby Johnson, Nina Szwalec and Laura Coyle saw the girls to victory.
Girls football team coach, Graeme Johnson said: “It was brilliant to see the girls taking on instructions and tactics from our weekly sessions and putting it into practice on match day.
"They have improved so much throughout the year and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
