Campbeltown Pupils 4
BSC Glasgow 2
WOSFL – fourth division
Campbeltown Pupils recorded their second win of the season last Saturday, at home against BSC Glasgow, in front of a large crowd of supporters.
Two early goals gave the Pupils, sponsored at home by McFaydens Contractors, a platform to go on and claim victory in an entertaining match at Kintyre Park.
After only two minutes, Fraser Bainbridge played in Calum Ellis, with the young striker taking it in his stride before unleashing an angled drive into the roof of the net.
It was a terrific effort and another contender for goal of the season.
BSC rattled the crossbar before Lorne Paterson doubled the lead in the 13th minute, heading home Ryan Deans’ in-swinging free kick at the far post.
The visitors were a very well drilled passing side, and the Pupils were fortunate not to concede a goal before the break.
The Kintyre side’s lead was further extended in the 59th minute, when a long throw from the right from Ellis Robertson was headed on by Scott Souden, for Ryan Deans to score with a close range volley.
BSC pulled a deserved goal back after 67 minutes, when the dangerous Callum McKenzie scored with a low drive.
The visitors had their best spell of the match after this, and Pupils keeper Alasdair Ferguson had to make a couple of excellent saves to keep the hosts’ lead intact.
The game was put to bed in the 81st minute when Bainbridge picked up an over-hit corner, before laying it into the path of Liam Renton, to whip in a cross for Souden to bullet a header past the helpless keeper.
BSC reduced the scoreline to 4-2 with two minutes of regulation time remaining, when McKenzie scored with a deflected free kick.
The game ended in some controversy, with Euan Dott and a BSC coach both red-carded after a confrontation in the visitors’ technical area.
It was a good three points for the Pupils, who now get a break from league fixtures with a South Challenge Cup game at home tomorrow (Saturday).
East of Scotland League side Linton Hotspur will make the five-hour journey to Kintyre Park.
Supporters are asked to note that the match will kick-off at 3pm and season tickets are invalid for entry.
