Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) connects local employers with education so young people develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the world of work. It is an employer led initiative preparing young people for their futures, while helping build a sustainable workforce.
The Young Person’s Guarantee
The Young Person’s Guarantee (YPG) initiative engages with local schools and connects businesses with young people to create inclusive and fair work experience opportunities through jobs, apprenticeships and training.
This framework has been designed to enable employers from all sectors - small, medium and large - to consider how they can support the Young Person’s Guarantee. The support is built around five key areas:
1. To prepare young people for the world of work
2. To help all young people achieve their potential
3. To invest in a skilled workforce
4. To create jobs, volunteering and training opportunities
5. To create an inclusive and fair workplace.
Employers - offer valuable opportunities
Are you an employer who could give an hour, a half-day or more to inspire and develop employability skills in our young workforce? The DYW programme provides many benefits for businesses that are willing to help support a young person onto their career ladder. You can:
• Increase your business profile within the community
• Get early access to the future talent pipeline
• Develop and motivate your existing staff
• Raise awareness of your industry and organisation
• Contribute to your corporate social responsibility
Learn more about DYW in your area and how it can benefit you as a young person or if you are an employer, your future workforce.

Supporting Scottish Apprenticeship
Week 2025 - 3 to 7 March
We’re shining a spotlight on the benefits of work-based learning for:
• people of all ages and backgrounds
• employers of all sizes
• the economy
The theme for Scottish Apprenticeship Week is Made For Business, recognizing that apprenticeships create Scotland’s skilled workforce.
Apprenticeships support the Scottish Government’s ambition to harness people’s talents and abilities, ensuring Scotland remains a successful nation.
Foundation, Modern, and Graduate Apprenticeships create high-quality opportunities, helping people achieve their potential. Over 40,000 apprentices support 12,000 businesses, gaining skills employers need now and in the future.
Scottish Apprenticeships drive economic growth - every £1 of public investment returns up to £5 to the Scottish Exchequer.
