This year’s Santa’s Elves Competition has produced a record entry.
Sponsored by the Lochaber Times, in partnership with Lochaber Rotary, this colourful competition is to select two little elves to accompany Santa and the Cairngorm reindeer on their sleigh on the day of the Lochaber Rotary Christmas Festival. This year it attracted more than 250 entries.
The picturesque challenge involved colouring in a picture of Santa and the reindeer pulling his sleigh as it soars over Ben Nevis and is about to land in Fort William.
A record 254 youngsters, aged from four to 11, accepted the challenge and submitted their illustrations by last Friday’s deadline.
The base artwork was prepared by Autumn Evans from Upper Achintore and was devised to appeal to all ages.
The huge task of choosing the two elf winners goes to Ferguson Transport and Shipping, which kindly supports the event and covers the cost of bringing the Cairngorm reindeer over to Lochaber for the day of the festival.
Rotary President Malcolm MacRaild was delighted with the level of response and Fiona Scott of the Lochaber Times described the number of entries as “Amazing!”.
The Festival takes place on Saturday November 30 – more information on Lochaber Rotary’s website (lochaberrotary.org.uk/) and Facebook page.
Winners of the competition will be announced in due course.
