A popular project that promotes and supports cycling in Mid Argyll has relaunched with a bigger and better service thanks to new funding.
Argyll and the Isles Coast and Countryside Trust (ACT Now) has provided 150 bikes to residents since launching its reCycle scheme in 2021.
And now the project has been boosted by community development funding, allowing it to move to bigger premises in Kilmory where it will begin offering electric bike servicing and repairs in addition to its bicycle maintenance services.
The project will also offer free ebike trials to support people thinking of going electric with their cycling.
ACT Now manager Jamie Joyce said: “The ACT reCycle project is delighted to have secured community-led local development funding.
“reCycle is a scheme which takes donated bicycles, reconditions the bicycle to a safe and useable standard and then provides this bicycle for free to Argyll and Bute residents who apply.
“This funding supports our move to new premises at Kilmory where we are increasing our work to reduce the barriers to cycling.
"We seek to enable all ages and abilities to increase the number of journeys made by bicycle and welcome all applications for those looking to gain the benefits of cycling. We also seek donations of unused bicycles to meet demand.”
In the three years reCycle has been operating, staff and volunteers have reused more than two tonnes of bicycles and parts, diverting waste from landfill and providing a cheap and healthy means of transport to individuals who otherwise could have struggled to afford a new bike.
Jamie added: “In working towards this aim, we tackle rural transport poverty, making cycling free and accessible for everyone.
"This aim also works towards supporting individuals to lower their impact on the environment whilst building climate resilience, protecting them from fuel-pump price rises; health and financial benefits are embedded in active travel.”
All bikes supplied by reCycle are fully checked and serviced by a qualified bicycle technician prior to supply. Technical support is also available to help riders improve their skills and to learn how to maintain and repair their bicycle.
