Essential repairs to Aray Bridge on the A83 at Inveraray, which started on Monday morning, September 2, will take up to eight weeks to complete, weather permitting, according to BEAR Scotland.
The work involves masonry repairs to the bridge parapet following damage caused by a vehicle collision, as well as final reinstatement of the stone pitching on the riverbed following storm damage last October.
Work is being carried out between the hours of 7.30am and 5.30pm.
Temporary traffic lights will extend the existing lights over the bridge and be in place 24 hours a day until the works are complete.
The reinstatement of the stone pitching on the riverbed under the bridge, will complete work started earlier in the year to strengthen the central support and bring the riverbed back to the original level, following Storm Babet.
Steel sheet piles were also installed to help retain the riverbed material and protect it from future scour.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative, said: “These works will complete reinstatement repairs to help preserve the Aray Bridge and provide a safe crossing by repairing the damaged parapet and the stone pitching. This bridge is almost 250 years old and of national and historic importance to Scotland.
“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage the travelling public to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
