Both the gents’ Christmas and New Year competitions at Dunaverty Golf Club had to be re-arranged due to inclement weather.
The original date for the Christmas contest provided torrential rain and high winds and the New Year competition was postponed due to a severe frost.
When players eventually got round to playing, Malcolm Ronald proved to be the main man, winning both competitions and, as a result, the overall combined nett prize.
Twenty-six players entered the re-arranged Christmas competition and scoring proved tricky, with seven of the competitors failing to return a score.
Result: 1 Malcolm Ronald 74-9=65, 2 John Marrison 75-9=66, 3 Matthew Ralston 80-13=67. Lowest gross: George MacMillan 66.
The first competition of 2025 was held over a few days, and conditions were fantastic for play as 29 players attempted to win the Taylor Tankard and bottle of Glen Scotia whisky that were on offer as first nett prize.
Malcolm again rose to the top with some very steady golf on the day.
Result: 1 Malcolm Ronald 72-8=64 (bih), 2 Jake MacMillan 68-4=64, 3 James Williamson 81-16=65. Lowest gross: Jake MacMillan 68.
Special mention went to to father and son George and Jake MacMillan, who alternatively claimed the scratch prizes in the two competitions.
Combined competition result: 1 Malcolm Ronald 65+64=129, 2 Andrew Barbour 70+66=136, 3= Donald Sloss 69+70=139 and Danny Halliday 70+69=139, 5 Scott MacBrayne 69+72=141, 6 Alex Arkell 71+71=142.
A club spokesperson said: “All at Dunaverty Golf Club would like to wish everyone a great 2025 and hope that the golf course is filled with visitors throughout the year and that competition is keen in both club and open competitions.”
