At Campbeltown Sheriff Court last Thursday, Michael Green, 37, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including stealing a car and having no insurance on December 16, 2017, failing to appear at Oban Sheriff Court and possessing a Stanley knife with no reasonable excuse, on January 16.
Earlier, Procurator Fiscal Depute Eoin McGinty told the court that when officers caught Green after the tip off he claimed he was sleeping rough while looking for work.
Before the constables put him in the police van they asked if he had anything sharp and he produced a Stanley knife.
Defence solicitor, Stephen MacSporran, told the court Green's theft of the car had been opportunistic.
Sheriff Patrick Hughes ordered a pre-sentencing psychiatric report and remanded Green in custody.
