Between North Connel and the Ballachulish Roundabout lies the A828 along the shores of Loch Linnhe offering spectacular views both inland and across the Loch to the Morven Hills. But this route is different to most because alongside it lies a newly built BICYCLE / WALKING TRACK that makes it fantastic for families to enjoy, whether cruising on bicycles or using it for a brisk walk, safe from speeding traffic.
The views are nothing short of spectacular as the road and the track go through the landscapes, both right on the shore and through the beautiful tempered rainforest the area is famous for. There are exciting detours to take from the A828, up Glen Creran, a quiet but stunning glen with forest covered hills and a sea loch with vast beaches.
But mid-way along the A828 lies Appin and nobody should go past without taking the single file road down to PORT APPIN. Renowned for its scenic views over the loch with Lismore only a short distance away, take your time to take it in, visit the Craft Shop and get a takeaway coffee and enjoy the scenic tranquillity.
Further along the A828 on a hill lies the Castle Stalker View, Café & Gift Shop where you will probably have the most spectacular view over Loch Linnhe with Castle Stalker, The Lighthouse, Morven Hills, Mull and more. Probable the most photographed scene along the A828 and even in all of Scotland. Enjoy..!!
After great experiences? then Appin offers a good variety of Cafés, inns and Restaurants with menus to everyone’s taste and for some, a browse in one of Scotland’s best Arts & Crafts Gallery in Port Appin or a visit to a real Garden Centre could be a highlight or a trip on the wee ferry over to Lismore.
