The ladies of Clachan SWI were treated to tales from Down Under when they met at member Louise Stanesby’s house, which she had converted into a picture house to display scenes from her visits to New Zealand and Australia earlier this year.
“Louise travelled with her daughter Rachel, who works with other young people from the UK packing kiwi fruit in New Zealand, and a friend she had done nursing training with,” explained a group spokesperson.
“At one point, they went by bus along an 80-mile sandy beach and had great fun body-boarding down a sand dune.
“After saying goodbye to her daughter, Louise and her friend travelled to Australia where they met up with another nursing friend.
“They hired a large motorhome and travelled from Brisbane to Melbourne, stopping at various sites of interest including three different theme parks.
“They shared out the tasks of driving, maintenance and housekeeping in the motorhome and had a lot of laughs, and we were glad to be able to share in their fun.”
After the presentation, tea was served in Louise’s large kitchen where many conversations continued.
The evening’s competitions were judged as follows: Favourite holiday photograph: 1 Anne Parkhouse, 2 Pauline Simson, 3 Lori Silvan; Australian animal, any medium: 1 Lori Silvan, 2 Katarina Smith, 3 Gill Francis.
The raffle was then drawn and Louise was thanked for all the effort to which she had gone to provide such an interesting and enjoyable night.
