The harbour master responsible for Tayinloan Pier is asking users who move safety barriers on the storm-damaged structure to leave them as they find them.
Stephen Scally made the appeal after Tayinloan residents voiced concerns that people could fall through holes in the pier’s deck after sections of railing, wooden planks and non-slip covering were displaced during Storm Eowyn on January 24.
As soon as it was safe to do so, the Campbeltown Harbour team responsible for Tayinloan Pier and others in Kintyre, quickly carried out an assessment of the pier, and erected safety barriers to prevent people accessing the damaged areas – but these appear to have been moved at times, causing concern for villagers.
Mr Scally is reminding people that members of the public should not touch the barriers, only those permitted to use the pier, but, if moved, they should be returned to the position in which they are found, to ensure public safety.
An Argyll and Bute Council spokesperson said the pier will be repaired as soon as the necessary materials arrive.
