The audience at this year’s Mull of Kintyre Music Festival (MOKFest) Dalriada Connections Concert are in for a real treat as it features two great headline acts, including The Canny Band, one of the best young instrumental bands on the festival scene.
The events will also see the welcome return of the much-loved Campbeltown band The Sarachs, featuring Anne Leith, Les Oman and Alex Johnson.
The concert, which will be held in Campbeltown Heritage Centre on Sunday August 25, will also feature a host of local and visiting musicians including Lorne MacDougall, Scooter Muse and Ciaran Mulholland.
The Canny Band are a rare fusion of piano, diatonic button accordion and bodhrán who were named the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards ‘Up and Coming Artist of the Year’ in 2021. This led to a busy summer touring festivals around Scotland and England.
The band, who already have several awards under their belt, have become stalwarts of Glasgow’s fertile music scene and are now a seasoned trio who cook up an effervescent mix of trad-based material with borrowings from classical, jazz and beyond. This is a band not to be missed.
This afternoon concert is now one of the firm festival favourites and the organisers would like to thank Glengyle Distillery for once again supplying a free Kilkerran whisky miniature for all attendees.
The five-day MOKFest has seven ticketed concerts, headlined by artists including Trail West, Dougie MacLean, Katie Macfarlane, Grouse Ceilidh Band, Slainte Davaar Allstars and Kintyre Schools Pipe Band.
Tickets for all concerts are available online at www.mokfest.com – where there is more information about the festival – or locally from AP Taylor on Campbeltown’s Main Street.
