Almost 200 competitors from as far afield as Cheshire and Lincolnshire enjoyed some fine and dry overhead conditions on Sunday as they navigated woodland, moorland and marsh near Taynuilt.
The event at Fearnoch and the adjacent Coille Nathais area marked round two in the 2022 Scottish Orienteering League, with 11 courses ranging in length and difficulty from a flat 1.8km for the youngest participants to 10km with 350m of climbing for the elite orienteers.
Forth Valley Orienteers had a productive day, with individual winning performances on seven courses and EckO’s (Loch Eck Orienteers) 23 competitors also posted quick times across some complicated terrain.
The club is very grateful to Lorne Nelson Estates for the use of Coille Nathais and to Forestry and Land Scotland for the use of Fearnoch.
Thanks also go to course planners Ross Lilley and Dave Bleazard, event controller Grant Carstairs and event organisers Jan Kersel and Andrea Lines, together with the team of volunteers for control collection, car parking, event assembly, starts and download.
Loch Eck Orienteers (EckO) is the orienteering club for Argyll and welcomes newcomers of all ages and abilities to come along to any of the informal monthly events held throughout most of the year.
Please see the website www.ecko.org.uk for more details.
