Athletes of all ages from around Lochaber have enjoyed another year of sporting success and over the next two week’s are taking the chance to wish all their supporters a merry Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year.
Lochaber Phoenix Boxing Club
Lochaber Phoenix Boxing Club has had a successful year in several different ways.
In the ring, Teenage boxer Connor Bodkin took the GB Schoolboy Golden Gloves title in a tri-national competition held in Wales. Dedicated poxing press also described him as delivering ‘the best punch of the tournament’.
The Club now has around 13 ‘carded’ boxers, recognised by and registered with Boxing Scotland, the official national organisation for the sport. This opens the way for them not only to compete in the National Championships, but also to take part in shows of other members across the country.
In June the Club was recognised as Lochaber Voluntary Organisation of the year, by Voluntary Action Lochaber. A further accolade followed when the Club also received the Highland Third Sector Initiative Judges Award for their outstanding work with young people.
As parents are unable to stay in the gym during training sessions, we held a “Family Night’ in Caol Community Centre, recreating training sessions, allowing friends and family to see for themselves what happens and watch a the progression from first visit to carded boxer.
We also ran day long classes at Lochaber High School as part of their Health and Wellbeing week, going through a series of routines with over 300 young pupils.
Our next Home Show is on March 29 2025, with tickets on sale in early January.

Lochaber Rugby Club
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all at Lochaber Rugby Club.
The 2024/25 season has started off brilliantly for our two senior teams, with fantastic results and even some silverware.
Our senior women’s team were crowned Arnold Clark Caledonia North Division 3 champions at the end of November, richly deserved after some outstanding league performances.
For 2025, a strong cup run in what remains of this season, plus the new challenge of a higher league division await the ladies and we cannot wait to see the development of that squad.
Not to be outdone, the senior men are currently undefeated across their season, with six 5-point bonus wins in the league and the West Region Bowl Final against Moffat RFC in February.
Our junior rugby sections continue to thrive, playing in tournaments and matches across the country and always representing the club so well. We are incredibly proud of all their achievements.
2025 is shaping up to be a successful year at Lochaber Rugby Club and we wish to thank all our volunteers, sponsors, members and supporters for continuing to get behind the teams.
We’ll see you at Banavie for the traditional Boxing Day match!
