Artemis Macaulay Cup quarter-final south
Oban Camanachd 3
Kyles Athletic 1
Holders Oban Camanachd are through to the Artemis Macaulay Cup semi-finals after beating Kyles Athletic 3-1 at Mossfield.
Oban Camanachd full centre Daniel MacCuish recovered from a groin injury to start as did Louie MacFarlane from an ankle knock.
Roddy Macdonald returned for Kyles Athletic as did David Zavaroni. Jack Whyte continued to deputise for John Whyte in goal, but John Kennedy remained out.
There was a minute’s silence ahead of throw-up at this game and at the match between Lochside Rovers and Kilmory following the passing of club stalwart Malcolm “Scally” MacMillan.
Although Oban Camanachd had most of the first half possession, with Jack Whyte making good saves, the closest to an opening goal was at the other end.
Oban keeper Cammy Sutherland came out of his goal to take a free-hit but James Pringle jumped to parry the rising ball with his caman. Scott McKillop slipped which allowed Pringle sight of goal, but he sent the ball just wide of target.
Oban Camanachd introduced Ross Macmillan for Matthew Sloss at the interval and he got the opener on 48 minutes.
Scott McKillop did well to win the ball back before clearing up the line.
Malcolm Clark got to the ball first and played it across the box where Ross Macmillan used his body well to turn his marker and smash the ball above keeper’s head to make it 1-0.
Daniel MacVicar was causing the Kyles defence problems with late runs forward and he added a quick-fire double on 78 and 81 minutes. One was shot into the bottom corner of the goal and the other was a first-time half volley.
Conor Kennedy pulled a goal back a minute from time, punishing the Oban defence for not clearing their lines, but it was no more than a consolation.
Oban Camanachd manager Gareth Evans said: “We were a bit passive in the first half. The Macaulay Cup is massive to us and maybe we felt the pressure a bit. We had enough ball up front but made wrong choices or took a touch too many.
“The first goal was key and we were better after that. Ross Macmillan gave us a cutting edge and he delivered again.
“Andy MacDonald had a good game and our defence was solid. Daniel MacCuish being able to play was a bonus. We took him off as a precaution after scoring our third goal.
“Louie MacFarlane went over his ankle but has a bit of time to get over that.”
Oban Camanachd, sponsored by TSL Contractors, do not have a fixture this Saturday as it is their nominated “free weekend”.
Their next scheduled match is against Lochaber at Spean Bridge in the Mowi Premiership on Saturday June 22.
Glasgow Mid Argyll 6
Bute 0
Glasgow Mid Argyll (GMA) won through to the Artemis Macaulay Cup semi-finals with a comfortable 6-0 victory over Bute in their 1.30pm-throw up at Peterson Park.
GMA’s Finlay Ralston returned, having missed the previous week’s game as a result of work commitments, but Cailean MacLeod and John McNulty remained out through longer-term injuries. Bute’s Scott Harvey completed his three-game ban.
Craig Anderson gave GMA a 2-0 interval lead with strikes on 11 and 24 minutes.
Calum McLay added a third a couple of minutes into the second half, whilst man of the match John Sweeney made it 4-0 on 63 minutes.
Calum Morrison on 75 minutes and Ruairidh Ralston in the final minute completed the scoring.

Inveraray 3
Col Glen 2
Familiar foes Inveraray and Col Glen met at the Winterton, with the hosts holding off a Col Glen fightback to win 3-2.
Inveraray’s Ruaraidh Graham was missing and he could be out for the rest of the season.
Graham needed five stitches to a knee wound following the previous week’s win over Kilmallie and an x-ray later confirmed a fractured kneecap. Recovery is expected to be between three and six months.
Col Glen’s Scott Symons began a two-game suspension.
Campbell Watt scored the only goal of the first half on 36 minutes, with Ewan Donnan adding two more on 50 and 60 minutes.
Scott MacVicar pulled a goal back on 65 minutes, with Sam Bulloch making it 3-2 five minutes later.
The win lifts Inveraray to third in the table.
Mowi South Division 1
First played third as Lochside Rovers faced Kilmory at Ganavan, but it was a first league defeat of the season for the Oban side who went down 2-1.
Lochside were still without the suspended Scott MacMillan whilst Calum MacMillan was injured, Fraser MacMillan was unavailable, and Craig Macmillan was with the first team.
Jamie Anderson returned and was Lochside’s best player on the day. Kilmory’s Craig Taylor began a two-game ban.
Lochside started with the wind in their favour, but it was Kilmory who led at the break through Sandy Leiper on 29 minutes, punishing the Oban side for not clearing their lines.
Euan Gilmour added a second with a penalty into the top corner of the net five minutes after the re-start.
Lewis Buchanan pulled a goal back on 63 minutes and Lochside went on to have their best period in the match but couldn’t find a way past the excellent Steven Gilmour in the visiting goal, so Kilmory took both points.
Lochside were due to travel to Peterson Park this Saturday to play the Glasgow Mid Argyll second team in the league but GMA have a rearranged HIS Sutherland Cup tie against the Newtonmore second team.
Lochside assistant manager Duncan MacMillan said: “We just didn’t play well and maybe the result will come as a bit of a reality check.
“We can’t just turn up and expect to win games. We need to show more than that. I know we were missing boys, but we certainly had enough to win the game.
“We had a reasonable shout for a penalty in the first half but it would have been against the run of play. The better team won but the league title is still in our hands.
“With this week’s game now rearranged, it doesn’t look as if we’ll have a match until Saturday July 6.”
The Glasgow Mid Argyll juniors beat the Kyles Athletic juniors 4-1 at Tighnabruaich.
Dunkie Kerr scored for the home side but Ryan MacKenzie’s double and efforts from Donald Fletcher and Mark Bain gave GMA the win and they are now just two points behind leaders Lochside.
Ballachulish won 4-0 against Aberdour at Silversands.
Lewis Moran scored on seven and 37 minutes, either side of a Pat MacLean goal on 34 minutes. Grant Symmers made it 4-0 on 73 minutes.

Gerard McKinlay pulled a goal back on the hour and a second from Donald MacInnes on 71 minutes and a fourth from Niall Arnott made it 8-1 on 76 minutes.
Inveraray’s Andrew McMurdo had the final say when he made it 8-2 on 82 minutes.
The Bute seconds beat the Aberdour seconds 3-0 at the Meadows. David Whitelaw scored two early goals on 14 and 18 minutes with Aaran MacFarlane making it 3-0 20 minutes from time.
Strachur-Dunoon defeated Uddingston 5-0 at Strachurmore.
Angus Campbell bagged a brace on 12 and 32 minutes, either side of efforts from Rhys Campbell on 15 minutes and Cairn Limbert five minutes later. Andrew Rossi scored the only goal of the second half on 66 minutes.
The sides also contested the Colin Cameron Memorial Quaich which remembers shinty stalwart Colin Cameron, the founder and first manager of the Strachur-Dunoon senior team, who died in June 2022. Strachur-Dunoon were the holders having beaten Uddingston 6-2 in the inaugural event last year. Strachur-Dunoon captain Ollie Adrian lifted the trophy.
