Southend's strenuous family quiz

Historical disasters and car logos were two of the challenging topics for residents and visitors to Southend's family quiz.

 

With ages ranging from five and seven to those with a few more years under their belts, Dunaverty hall was packed recently, for 10 rounds of 10 diverse questions, catering for all.

 

Each team had a joker, to be played as and when they decided their expert knowledge deserved double points.

 

The first round of cartoons saw an impressive full house of 10 points going to the Norfolk and Clue team, followed closely by two teams on nine points.

 

Things evened out considerably after the sport round with only six points between first and last places.

 

A picture round of birds followed, after which the competitors' knowledge of literature was tested.

 

By the end of the first half of the evening, which concluded with a round of food and drink questions, quite a few jokers had been used.

 

Norfolk and Clue was still in the lead, but only by one point, with the Painted Teapots just behind, both teams having used their joker.

 

The second half opened with the historical disasters round, favouring those of a certain age, followed by film and television.

 

Another round of pictures, this time of car logos, saw both the Painted Teapots and Bunch of Jokers teams scoring full points.

 

Geographic knowledge was up next, with rivers of the world questions, before the ultimate round of general knowledge questions.

 

First place honours went to the Painted Teapots team of Patricia and Michael Healey, Heather Macadam and David Bassett.

 

Second place was the Norfolk and Clue with the Undecideds supporting all other teams above them.
