Can you spare an hour a week to support a Lochaber High School pupil? MCR Pathways is looking for volunteer mentors to unlock a young person’s potential.
MCR Pathways is a national charity with a mission to support young people who are care experienced or are facing other significant disadvantages in their lives.
The vision behind the mentoring programme is to allow the youngsters to experience equality of education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances as they move into adulthood.
Holli Salmond, MCR Pathways Coordinator at Lochaber High School, said: “We know complex trauma is a trap for young people. It gets worse through lack of connections with good consistent adults.
“Our mentoring programme is designed around injecting one single trusted adult volunteer into young people’s lives, so that they do not face trauma alone.”
Volunteer mentors at Lochaber High School are asked to spend one hour a week listening to a young student and being there for them.
Holli added: “We aim for every young person to break free of their circumstances and have their future determined by their skills and talents.
“Mentoring matters to us as there is amazing potential in our young people, the potential that’s often buried by the challenges of life outside of school.
“By spending just one hour a week listening and being there for a young person, a mentor will empower a young person to unlock their potential.”
