As winter sets in Mid Argyll Helps Ukraine has put out an appeal for specific items to help families trapped in the worn-torn country facing the season without power.
Donations of torches, head torches, candles, generators, battery-powered lights, hand warmers and heat packs are being sought by Nikki Thomson and Amanda Duffy Brown to send onward in the next instalment.
Nikki explained that they were again joining forces with the Scot Baby Box Appeal in Coatbridge and that a van from Mid Argyll would be heading down that way with supplies to their warehouse in the next few weeks.
What the pair, who are taking in the donations, CANNOT accept though are donations of clothing or bedding as there is just now room for more.
Also still on the list of supplies needed are dried and tinned foods such as pasta, soup, coffee, tea, chocolate, sauces, tinned meat, powdered milk, mash, noodles, rice and the like.
And among the first aid and medical supplies requested are bandages, gauze, burn creams and dressings, pain relief such as paracetamol and ibuprofen as well as complete first aid kits.
For the babies, nappies and baby milk formula are in high demand and, of course, cat and dog food for the many animals that have been left behind or been left to fend for themselves.
Nikki said: “Our donations have included medical supplies, disability aids, food, baby formula, animal aid, prams, cots, nappies, sanitary products, toiletries and sweets for the children.”
Most recently a family donated a six-person tent, which can be used not just for accommodation but as an assembly point or field hospital.
“We are once again overwhelmed by the generosity of the communities of Mid Argyll, Kintyre, Oban and the islands for their donations and continued support.”
One couple, Fiona and Alasdair McPhee, drove up from Campbeltown to Ardrishaig to drop off a baby set including a cot, high chair and booster seat and Kate Maccaulay from Inverneill popped in with a gorgeous cot bed and mattress, a wooden rocking horse, toys and winter clothes for the children, while another donation included walking frames and crutches.
Thanking everyone for the donations, Nikki added: "We are now at full capacity for clothing and toys...thank you."
Nikki and Amanda can be messaged with any questions about potential donations on the Mid Argyll Helps Ukraine Facebook page.
