Lochgilphead Red Star 5
Elderslie 0
GGPAFL Division Three
Red Star welcomed Elderslie to the Joint Campus last Saturday looking to avenge a 1-3 loss earlier in the season and they did just that with easily their best performance of the season.
Sporting their new change strip sponsored by SJB Builders, the Lochgilphead side took less than 25 seconds to find themselves in front when Zach Campbell returned to scoring form after reacting quickest in the box and catching the visitors cold.
Star settled really well playing some excellent football and doubled their lead when some excellent wing play from Kyle Danson saw the ball crossed to Craig Aitken at the back of the box and he finished into the bottom corner in typically composed fashion to put Star 2-0 up.
The Star midfield trio of the returning Aaron Moore, Cammy Lewis and Keiran Caskie were starting to take control and help the forward line create some good openings, however, the Elderslie keeper’s shot-stopping kept the score down until the 35-minute mark.
It was Woody Hoad who added the third goal in spectacular style when he strode out from defence before unleashing an incredible effort which went in off the post for another goal of the season contender.
The game was as good as over as half time approached when Star added a fourth goal through Keiran Caskie, which he deserved for his energetic performances in recent weeks, to make it 4-0.
Into the second half and their was no dip in performance from Red Star, however, the chances weren’t coming as frequently and Elderslie looked to steady their ship defensively.
The final goal of the game was added late on through substitutes Logan Phillips and Ruaraidh Green combining. Philips delivered a neat ball across goal for Green to finish with no mistake to make the final score 5-0.
“This was easily our best performance of the season," the coaches commented after the match. "It’s the first game we’ve had where we’ve genuinely not given our opponents a sniff and it shows what the team are capable of. We’re delighted for our defence today who helped us achieve our first clean sheet of the season as well.”
On Saturday November16 Star are on the road as they travel to play Eddlewood in their latest league fixture.
