For the first time since the pandemic, Tobermory High School hosted its summer fair, this time to raise funds for the school’s mini-bus.
Organised by the school’s parent council, the summer fair is the closing event of the year’s fundraisers.
The council has previously had fundraising tubs out in local businesses over the rally period, held a Christmas disco and fair, and Easter tombola.
All the money has gone towards the running of the mini-bus, which is now school-owned following budget cuts, or to buy vital resources needed by the students.
Parent council chairperson Tracy Mayo said: "We own and run our own school mini-bus so we need to ensure we have funds to keep it on the road.
"Parents and carers worked extremely hard to buy the mini-bus when funding was cut some years ago."
Sunday June 23 saw the school have some fun in the sun with a wealth of games and stalls. Local businesses donated to the raffle and some even donated their time to help run the event.
Tracy Mayo said: "Thanks to Woody’s Wagon who saved the day making the ferry journey over from Kilchoan with their delicious food, and Alison and Pete Dugdale who went above and beyond to locate extra raffle tickets!"
Head Teacher Shelly Carmichael said: “The reinstated Tobermory High School Summer Fair was a resounding success: the sun was shining, the community support was palpable and a fun time was had by all. It was lovely to see such a willingness to help the school by so many.
"A huge thank you to the Parent Council fundraising group who worked tirelessly to organise and run the successful afternoon. Thank you, too, to all the local businesses who offered such generous raffle prizes, to those who helped and attended on the day, and to all who contributed to this fantastic event.
"We’re looking forward to next year already.”
