Six Lochaber Swim Team members joined five other Highland Swim Team (HST) member clubs at a warm weather camp in the Spanish town of Calella, Barcelona, earlier this month.
Swimmers from Lochaber, Nairn, Tain, Wick, Thurso and Inverness make up the performance team that predominantly train with their home clubs but attend HST sessions in Inverness Leisure Centre.
Clair Adams, HST chairperson, explained: "The club is run by volunteers and we listened to the athletes through a planning session led by Scottish Swimming and amongst other things we heard that they would like to train in a warmer climate.
"So the Calella camp was organised and 29 athletes from all six clubs attended and were trained by coaches from HST."
The camp was based at a 50 metre outdoor pool and the group enjoyed two two-hour pool sessions each day with regular dry training, nutrition support and sports psychology.
There were fun team games in the evening which they all enjoyed.
The six Lochaber swimmers who attended were Yasmin MacCallum, Olivia McManus, Mya MacCallum, Elizabeth Morgan, Lauren Jones and Charleigh Adams.
"Feedback has been brilliant," added Clair.
"The swimmers showed incredible commitment to the programme and made some fantastic friendships along the way. These athletes are often swimming for HST in national and international meets and to be able to attend a camp like this is a great opportunity."
The objectives of HST are to engage with the club coaches, athletes and swimmers to provide a performance pathway across the Highlands.
They also aim to develop, nurture and progress swimmers and athletes in line with the HST vision and develop competitive athletes in a successful composite swim team which strives for excellence, encourages hard work, values consistency and has a competitive attitude.
