If you’re excited about the first weekend in July then you must be getting ready for Tarbert Seafood Festival!
The party that everyone’s invited to rolls back into the village on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July and is packed with entertainment, family fun and a little bit of tradition.
Every year festival organisers promise a fun-filled weekend and this year is no different. If you’re visiting the Seafood Festival for the first time then we recommend you getting there early. This will give you an opportunity to browse the stalls along harbourside from 11.00am which sell everything from food and drink to arts and crafts.
For seafood lovers a visit to the fish quay is a must. Chef Mike Leslie from Kilsyth’s Coachman returns to this year’s festival to showcase Tarbert’s wonderful seafood, with his food demonstrations. He’ll also oversee the ever popular Ready, Steady, Cook competition which sees local chefs battle it out for cooking kudos. And, of course, if you have any questions on how you can get the best from your seafood, this is the time to ask.
Street entertainment starts from 12.00 noon as festival favourite, T J Mac takes to the trailer stage so remember to bring your singing voice and get ready to join in with songs from across the decades.
Look out for performances from escapologist Rob Roy Collins who will show you how he gets out of tight situations!
The official part of the festival starts at 12.30pm with the crowning of the Seafood Festival Queen. This year’s Queen is Jessica Wilkieson and she’ll be joined by her Princesses Lua MacLennan and Carys Graham. In time-honoured Seafood Festival tradition, the Queen and Princesses cross across the harbour by boat to meet the crowds at the Quay. From there they make their way to the main stage where the crowning ceremony takes place.
And then it’s time to party as the Queen and Princesses join the legendary Seafood Festival parade through the village. Led by Mid Argyll Pipe Band, the parade is one of the highlights of the Seafood Festival. This year’s festival theme is Children’s Books and organisers are looking forward to finding out what the story is. Everyone is welcome to join in – this is a family-friendly event – we want you to get involved!
The fun lasts all afternoon, so make sure you don’t miss a thing. There’s a Highland dancing demonstration, more street performances from Rob Roy Collins and Kid’s Workshops from the BFG and Sophie, with music from Mid Argyll Pipe Band, After You and T J Mac.
But that’s not the end of the fun as the Seafood Festival returns on Sunday for Beer on the Pier. This means you’ve got just about enough time to get your singing voice back and get your dancing shoes on before heading out to the marquee for another party.
The Democrats kick off the event getting everyone up on their feet with their mix of old favourites.
Tarbert’s favourite girl group, Feeva are back so get your pink wigs ready! We’ll also welcome young, local band After You back after their set on Saturday. New for 2024 is Scotland’s number 1 Take That tribute band, Could It Be Take That.
And, it wouldn’t be a Seafood Festival without a raffle and prizegiving, so if you’ve taken part in any of the competitions over then this is the time to find out if you’ve won a prize.
With the Democrats bringing the festival to a close there’s only one thing left to do. Get started on plans for 2025…
