The celebration follows a highly successful year in which trophies were won at the Oban Provincial Mòd, the Mull Provincial Mòd and the Royal National Mòd. The choir also won the Selma Shield for the highest marks in Gaelic in the MacMaster competition at the Royal National Mòd in Perth last month.
The choir’s president and Gaelic tutor Andreas Wolff said: ‘We successfully sang our songs in Argyll Gaelic even though it is not so well known these days. In particular, we thank John MacFarlane of Taynuilt for his valuable guidance.’

At the AGM Jane Basford, one of the sopranos in the choir, revealed that her late grandmother Katie Shaw had been a member of the Luing Gaelic Choir which won the Selma Shield in the 1930s. Jane was delighted and honoured to be able to hold aloft the same Selma Shield almost 100 years later.

Huge praise was given to the choir’s conductor Audrey Paterson whose choral skills, guidance and hard work continue to benefit the 'Happy Wee Choir'.
The Taynuilt Gaelic Choir meets at 7.30pm on Tuesday evenings at Taynuilt Sports Pavilion, where new members are always very welcome.
