Taynuilt teenager Euan Sim has achieved his first major victory in the Trial 3 Class of the Trial GP World Championships.
The 15-year-old Oban High School student has been gaining ground on the UK and World circuits since signing to Sherco UK in March this year - taking two podium spots on his World Championship debut at the beginning of June.
In round two, he was back amongst the winners, finishing second on day two in torrential rain in Valsassina, Italy, following a seventh place on day one.
The north Italian course featured a challenging mixture of man-made and natural hazards plotted on super-steep bankings and in a riverbed studded with huge rocks.
Two weeks later, Euan was on the European mainland again in Neunkirchen, Germany, where he finished second across both days of the event.
But Euan went one step further in the fourth round test in Belgium. Despite all the odds, and being behind fellow Brit and defending champion George Hemingway in every event so far, Euan broke the champion’s unbeaten streak and took gold.
Speaking on his first major victory, Euan said: “I’m made up with my win in Belgium. I was really happy with my riding and the bike felt fantastic. I can’t thank team Sherco UK - James Fry and Emma Bristow - enough for giving me this opportunity.
"It also wouldn’t be possible without the backing of my family and sponsors. The support I’ve had from local businesses has been unbelievable and I’d like to say thanks to them. Their help has allowed me to train for these events and complete the world round season."
Euan would also like to thank the local businesses who have supported him: Sinclair Plant, ABC4D, Argyll Building Contractor, Colin Sloss Deer Control, Scott Robertson Accident Repairs, Flit Oban, Coastal Campers Oban, MacKenzie Welding Ltd, MacNiven Electrics, Gordon & Strathearn Ltd, PMG Services, Creran Marine, Sharp Edge Projects Ltd, John MacLachlan Ltd, Robins Nest Tearoom, Lochaber Trials Club, Bob MacGregor Trials Academy, Off Road Moto, Loch Lomond Motorcycle Club, PeaFarm MX Enduro, 7even Construction Ltd, and Highland Temporary Works Ltd.
Round five takes the world’s best riders to Cahors, France, on August 24 and 25 with Euan going into the event sitting second in the world championship standings, 14 points clear of third place and 25 behind first.
