Three community organisations have received a welcome cash boost after the team at Tesco Oban handed out grants worth £3,000.
The money was awarded as part of Tesco’s blue token initiative, with shoppers picking The Oban Hospice Dove Centre as the winner of the £1,500 grant for the October to December period.
The money will help provide opportunities for local people living with cancer or life-limiting illnesses to meet together for lunch, tea and good company.
The Oban and Lorn Youth Pipe Band Association was awarded £1,000 to help fund the purchase of additional musical instruments, while Tarbert After-School Care received £500, which will go towards refreshing and updating the resources to create meaningful play opportunities for children between the ages of three and 12.
The funding came from Tesco’s Stronger Starts scheme, in partnership with the Groundwork charity, which supports many Oban community projects and good causes, giving away thousands of pounds.
Oban shoppers can use the Stronger Starts scheme to support local groups by dropping the Tesco community token they receive at the checkout into the relevant voting box as they leave the store.
Brian Costello, Store Manager at Tesco Oban Superstore, said: “We are delighted to help support each of the three organisations with the funding they have received through our Stronger Starts scheme and hope that the money can help support each to continue the great works they provide to the local community.”
