Residents, organisations and businesses in and around Kinlochleven are being given a final chance to have their say on what their Local Place Plan will look like.
The draft plan is now ready for everyone to check, based on all the ideas put forward since the project launched in January.
This community-led initiative, coordinated by Kinlochleven Community Action Group (KCAG) and Kinlochleven Community Council, is a shared agenda for the future, guiding what can be achieved as a community and influencing public services and private investment.
The plan contains great ambitions for the village, expressed in a vision for the future and actions on how to get there.
It was developed with extensive community engagement between late 2023 and summer 2024.
"We want a bright future for our village. We want to make more of our history and heritage. We want our young people to find fulfilling opportunities here, and older people to be able to age healthily. We want to make it attractive and welcoming for working families," are just some of the wishes of those who have had their say so far.
"Ultimately, we want a thriving community where people can access the services, facilities and opportunities they need."
The plan aims to:
• Build consensus - within the community and across the public and private sectors, to get things done rather than stuck in debate
• Support community action - for example, helping community projects to get funding
• Improve public services - including education, health, transport, employability and planning (and to complement the forthcoming Kinlochleven Locality Plan that will address inequalities)
Achieving that will need collaboration and support from the Scottish Government, the Highland Council, Community Planning Partners and Jahama Highland Estates. This plan sets out a manifesto for the future.
"We look forward to working with those and other partners to make it happen," said Kinlochleven resident and KCAG vice-chairperson Sarah Arfaoui.
"It may look like the finished plan, but it’s not. That’s because everyone in the village should check whether it says what’s right for the community. The plan can change."
