Things get messy at Whiting Bay Church

Whiting Bay and Kildonan Parish Church’s first Messy Church event has been a resounding success with more than 21 children taking part in the family-friendly outreach event.

 

The Messy Church concept is an initiative aimed at introducing and welcoming young children to the church by offering them age-appropriate fun, games and educational activities.

 

Whiting Bay and Kildonan Parish Church locum minister Brian Murray said: ‘We love providing Messy Church as a way of introducing and teaching kids about bible stories in a friendly and fun way.

 

'It is a fun day orientated towards family which allows all ages to worship together and to experience the Christian community.

 

‘Learning through play, crafts and sharing in a meal together.’

 

Providing smiles and laughs aplenty, the Messy Church event included fun games, storytelling, puppet shows from adults and the children, snacks, lunch, music, singing and arts and crafts.

 

The Whiting Bay Messy Church event will take place each month from now until around March and all children are invited to attend.

 

In addition to this youth enterprise the church has also introduced a Warm Room initiative which invites members of the community to take sanctuary under its roof.

 

Homemade soup, snacks, tea and coffee are provided at no cost and it allows visitors to enjoy some warmth, companionship and socialising with other locals. Everyone is welcome to attend.
