At the time of writing this ‘thought for the week’, I have no way of knowing the result of yesterday’s election. However, I have some universal thoughts to share that apply however the result has fallen and whatever your political views.
In past weeks, we have considered what a political leader will do for us. Question? What can we do for them?
Thought: Prayer is a powerful tool. Let us commit to praying for our newly-elected leaders, asking God to grant them wisdom, discernment, and a heart for justice and peace.
Scripture: 1 Timothy 2:1-2: “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
Living as good citizens.
Thought: Being a good citizen means following the laws and showing respect for our leaders. In the Christian faith, our actions are to reflect our commitment to Christ, setting an example of integrity and responsibility.
Scripture: 1 Peter 2:13-14: “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.”
Loving our neighbours.
Thought: Political differences should not hinder our love for one another. Let us practise love and kindness, reaching out to those who may have different views and building bridges of understanding and compassion.
Scripture: Mark 12:31: “... Love your neighbour as yourself.”
We all have a part to play in this new beginning.
