Easter came early this year. I often get asked why do we keep changing the date? The answer is the Western Church chose to follow the Jewish Passover which follows the solar and the lunar cycles.
The easiest way I have of remembering when it will fall is it’s the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox – simple, really!
I don’t think Jesus meant to start a new church tradition and I know he would be sad to see so many different traditions. However, each branch is rooted in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and our call to follow in the way of Jesus.
How we achieve that and what we choose to believe about certain parts of our faith are quite often different.
Church should be different because people are different. Each one of us needs to find a church where we feel we belong and where we can be ourselves.
I’ve been reading a book called Forest Church by Bruce Stanley. We live in such a beautiful area with many beautiful churches but sometimes it is good to meet God outside, probably more often than inside, really!
Taking an interest in our area, the landscape, flora, fauna and history is something I’m keen to explore and I’m hoping that some people of all ages might be interested in exploring that too.
Even if you don’t want to meet as a group, I offer one suggestion: find a ‘sit spot’, a place you like, where you feel comfortable and just sit quietly and look and listen. Perhaps give thanks for something. There is no right or wrong way to do this, just do it!
