“And after the earthquake, a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire, and after the fire, a still, small voice.” (1 Kings 19:12)
This is not only speaking of an event of thousands of years ago but prophetically of today, and the disasters our world faces.
And as we pick up the pieces of heart-rending catastrophes, we can hear that quiet voice. God is still speaking in quiet and measured tones of love and mercy.
Our global circumstances may be terrifying, but if we pause and listen, we will hear that same quiet voice.
It matters not whether we profess a faith or none – that still small voice is heard. It is as we respond to that voice that change occurs.
The atheistic Soviet troops fighting for their lives in Stalingrad heard the voice and gave heed to it – and military turnaround followed.
It is the still small voice that makes a way where there is no way. It is that still small voice that brings about the impossible.
It is the same voice that illuminates the darkest of situations. Jesus is described in John’s Gospel as the Word... perhaps the Word and that still small voice are the same – I think they are.
It is a voice that will bring permanent change.
I know for a certainty that there are those reading this who feel hopelessly entrapped by impossible circumstances. Perhaps even driven to despair.
This is a time to turn, to listen and to respond to that still small voice that you can hear – not with your ears, but deep inside your soul.
It is for you to listen and choose.
