Twelve new flats are officially set to be built in Tobermory after the council’s plans to build them were rubber-stamped.
Argyll and Bute Council made the proposal to construct the properties on land at Rockfield Road and Dervaig Road on the Isle of Mull.
And with only one representation having been received from the public, planning officers have now given the go-ahead for the construction.
An officer said in a handling report: “The application site as existing comprises an area of agricultural land towards the southwest outskirts of Tobermory. The site is bound to the northeast and southeast by residential properties.
“The B8073 public road bounds the site to the southwest and agricultural land adjoins the site to the northwest. The site slopes gently, rising from the southeast to the northwest.
“The information submitted with the application advises that this application seeks to address the identified temporary accommodation needs of the Isle of Mull community workforce by increasing the availability of housing stock in an area where there is currently high demand and a limited supply.
“The proposed development would provide accommodation for seasonal, temporary and new permanent workers, with the erection of 12 residential units which would be sited within three blocks of two-storey units, with each housing four flats.
“Ten of the units would be two-bedroomed flats, and the remaining two units would be one-bedroomed flats.
“The proposed vehicular access would extend into the site from the adjacent B8073 public road and would branch within the site boundary to take a ‘T’ shaped form.
“The three proposed blocks would be sited within the north, west, and southeast corners of the site, dissected by the proposed access road.”
Addressing concerns in the representation about an increase in traffic, the officer also said: “Given the settlement area designation, the proximity of the site to the town centre and its associated public transport services, and the provision of sufficient on-site parking provision, the proposal is considered to be acceptable in terms of traffic generation.
“The area roads authority have been consulted on the application and have raised no objections subject to conditions.
“Subject to such conditions, the development would have a safe means of vehicular access and sufficient parking provision within the site boundary, ensuring minimal impact upon the adjacent road network.”
