The heartbroken family and friends of a 25-year-old man who died in a car accident have described him as “one of a kind”.
Tributes have been pouring in for Jamie Green who died following a crash on the B842 at Knocknaha, near Stewarton, on January 6.
The accident happened at around 4pm and involved a red BMW car. Emergency services attended and Jamie, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 23-year-old driver was taken to hospital for treatment.
In a statement released at the time, Jamie’s mum Margaret-Anne, dad Jim, sister Megan and brother-in-law Stuart said they were “completely broken” by the tragedy.
They added: “Jamie was our beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend, who was taken from us so tragically. Our hearts are truly broken.
“Jamie had the kindest heart and lived his short life to the fullest. He will be missed by so many.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support shown and the many kind words that have been shared by those who knew him.”
They also thanked the emergency services that attended the scene of the crash, where the Rangers fan’s friends have since set up a memorial. Tributes lay there written on football tops and scarves alongside other items close to Jamie and floral tributes.
Speaking to the Courier this week, the family described Jamie, a former pupil of Dalintober Primary School and Campbeltown Grammar School, as a music and singing “fanatic”.
They added: “He knew every word to every song, especially from the 1980s, and that’s how we would like people to remember him.”
Social media has been flooded with tributes to Jamie, whose nicknames included ‘The Green Fla’, ‘Big Jim’ and ‘King’.
His sister Megan wrote: “If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever. I am and will always be the proudest sister.”
Some of his many friends described him as “a legend”, “one of a kind” and as having “the biggest heart”.
Darren Conley wrote: “No words can express how I feel, I am absolutely heartbroken. I love you to bits, my wee life’s not going to be the same without you, Jimbo. You truly were a legend.”
Eilidh Bell added: “Part of me left with you, James. I’d do anything for one last big cosy hug from him. How lucky we all were to be blessed with someone so unique and precious with the biggest heart.”
Niall McCallum said he was “lost for words”, adding that it was a pleasure to have known and shared so many good memories with his friend.
The date for a memorial service for Jamie is still to be confirmed but in a bid to give him “the send off he deserves” without adding pressure onto his family, his friends have set up a fundraising page, which can be accessed on the GoFundMe website here.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
Sergeant Archie McGuire said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Green at this difficult time.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us. We also ask anyone with dash-cam footage of the area at the time to come forward.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1982 of January 6, 2025.”
