Plans for 26 affordable new homes on Arran have been submitted to North Ayrshire Council on behalf of Trust Housing Association, Arran’s largest social housing provider.
The development across the proposed site in the Springbank area of Brodick comprises a variety of housing, ranging from two-bed semi-detached to three-bed terraced properties.
According to the plans, the development will also offer two semi-detached two-bedroom bungalows designed to be wheelchair-accessible, and will include social rented housing.
The proposal has been submitted by Scottish construction firm, The JR Group.
Andrew Dallas, projects director for The JR Group, said the proposed development at Springbank is a vital step in the right direction for Arran’s community, delivering high quality homes in an area which needs more affordable housing options and community investment.
He said: “As approximately 25 per cent of homes on Arran are currently used as second homes and holiday lets, this proposed new site will give housing options back into the hands of local residents and key workers who are looking for an affordable home.
“It also supports local employers struggling to attract and retain staff due to the limited housing options across the island.
“Trust Housing Association mirrors our values in making a positive difference to communities across the country, so it is great to be working on behalf of them on these exciting plans.
“We look forward to receiving a decision from North Ayrshire Council in due course.”
The site forms part of a larger area of open ground which has already been allocated and zoned for residential development by North Ayrshire Council.
The proposed development is close to other Trust Housing Association homes and is currently a vacant field.
It extends from the residential streets of Hillview Place and Brathwic Place on its western edge to the natural boundary of the Strathwhillan Burn which flanks the A841 road.
The proposed houses will be located close to Brodick’s ferry terminal and amenities and will be arranged across eight blocks, comprising between two and three properties each.
If approved, the buildings will be clad in black-coloured weather board and have uPVC fascia and windows, composite doors and interlocking concrete roof tiles.
Included in the proposal are plans to create a new access road and parking to serve the development.
Jackie McIntosh, assets and sustainability director at Trust Housing Association, said: “Our partnership approach to developing these plans for Springbank with The JR Group is aimed at providing much-needed new energy-efficient family homes on the island.
As Arran’s largest social rented landlord and a strategic member of the Arran Taskforce, we are committed to increasing affordable housing supply and options for residents on the island, with our investment in the project also sure to bring additional value to the local economy.”
Trust Housing Association is a not-for-profit registered social landlord, regulated by the Scottish Housing Regulator, Care Inspectorate and Scottish Charities Regulator. It is also a key housing delivery partner for the council.
