Uist footballers dressed for success in Inverness

Seven young football players from Sgoil Uibhist a Tuath travelled to Inverness recently to compete in the final round of the national five-a-side football competition Comunn Na Gàidhlig’s Cuach na Cloinne.

 

The team qualified for the finals after winning the Uist and Barra section - the first major event the youngsters had taken part in post Covid.

The tournament was won by Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh as reported in the Lochaber Times on June 16.

 

While they were there, the Uist boys were treated to a tour of the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, home of Scottish Championship side Inverness Caley Thistle.

 

The trip was only made possible by generous financial donations and sponsorship.

 

Sgoil Uibhist a Tuath thank those whose financial contributions and support enabled the pupils to travel to the mainland and enjoy playing against teams from other schools across Scotland.

 

Class teacher Margaret Mary Findlay said: 'We are extremely grateful to Loch Duart Salmon for purchasing 30 football kits for our school. These kits will allow pupils of all ages the opportunity to represent the school in future football tournaments and festivals. Our football team looked very smart during their games.'
