On a day that mainly felt as though summer might have finally arrived, 16 ladies competed in Dunaverty Golf Club’s SSAFA (Soldiers’, Sailors’, and Airmen’s Families Association) Stableford competition on Tuesday July 23.
The ladies took to the court over morning, lunchtime and evening ballot times, with those in the morning and at lunchtime experiencing sunny conditions and a decreasing wind.
In the first group of the day, Katie Cappello returned a card of 29 points to set the pace. Her lead was short-lived, however, with Maureen Johnstone in the next group out continuing her current good form and carding a score of 35 points to take over the top spot.
Maureen’s lead remained until the evening players took to the course in fine but overcast conditions which suited Elizabeth Marrison, who carded a great score of 37 points to take first place and win the SSAFA competition.
Result: 1 Elizabeth Marrison 37 pts, 2 Maureen Johnstone 35 pts, 3 Inez Ronald 34 pts (bih).
