Volunteers' selfless service
Since the demise of Kintyre Youth Enquiry Service at the end of last summer there has been a gap in provision.
A pair of determined and selfless volunteers, Phil Edwards and Lesley Renton, who have decades of youth work experience behind them, plan to position Youth Impact as the go to venue for young people.
They are ambitious in their vision and have fought hard, with backing from many in the community, to put their ideas into practice, which has led to the group opening its premises in less than four months.
Another group of volunteers which has worked hard for many years is the Kintyre Red Cross committee.
They have ensured that the humanitarian charity makes a profit from its Kirk Street hall. Unfortunately the Red Cross nationally seems blind to this and Campbeltown is among 62 across Scotland ear-marked for closure.
If any of those officials had been at the packed RNLI coffee morning, in the Red Cross hall, last Saturday they would have witnessed how one vital charity is helping another.
