Oban Hospice’s new Dove Centre has opened on Stevenson Street and is ready to welcome guests. Read on and watch our video to take a tour of the facilities.
It has been a long time coming but the new Dove Centre has finally opened just across the road from the old premises.
Bigger and better than its predecessor, the new building can accommodate many more visitors.
Inspired by the layout and work of Glasgow’s Maggie Centre, which board members frequently visit, the new centre is a calm and welcoming environment.
All of the furniture in the new building, save for the new kitchen table, was reused from the former building, but the board are still happy to change their layout based on feedback.
At the open days, which are due to take place this weekend, feedback forms will be handed out to visitors alongside tea, coffee and snacks.
On Friday March 7 the centre will be open from 5-7pm and from 10am-4pm on Saturday March 8.
Visitors to the new Dove Centre will benefit from more room for activities and more privacy, complimented by quiet rooms that allow for more relaxation during therapies.
Among the plans for new activities, which are still being worked on, the hospice will be relaunching its tabletop games group and hosting a monthly meeting of the Pink Ladies support group, the first of which takes place on March 27.
To expand their portfolio of work, more volunteers will be required, and the hospice is always happy to accept new people with new ideas.
The board would like to thank the tradesmen who went above and beyond to make the building as good as it could be.
Some have already had the pleasure of seeing the new location after it opened to take donations for its Ceilidh fundraiser on Saturday.
Held at the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, the dance floor was busy, with many displaying their dancing skills.
Board member John MacKenzie said: "Feedback from both artists and audience has been extremely positive, with everyone commenting on how much they had enjoyed the evening.
"Grateful thanks were expressed to all who had contributed to the success of the evening - those who donated home-baking and/or raffle prizes, Amanda and staff at the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, and all the artists for generously giving their time and talent."
Thanks to the generosity and support of all involved a sum of £3,463 was raised to fund Oban Hospice’s services and to cover the costs of the new centre.
The new Dove Centre is open Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, and all are welcome.
