Scottish Water’s proposal is part of its Your Water, Your Life project, and would see the facility installed at the New Quay Street site.
A similar structure was put in place at Helensburgh Pier earlier in 2023, and Argyll and Bute Council planning officers are now considering planning permission for another one in the area.
A decision from the officers is expected by early September, and the public can now view and comment on the plans.
A supporting statement by Scottish Water said: “A selection of site options for the top up tap were identified based on community requests received, for a further top-up tap location in Argyll and Bute.
“Further to discussions, we identified the preferred location at the Ferry Terminal as the most suitable location.
“The proposed unit is in line with street furniture in the area. Public safety, aesthetics, and usability have been balanced in the precise siting of the unit. It is considered that the current proposal is positive in all respects.
“It is considered the proposed top-up tap will make a positive contribution to the area.
“The site of the new facility would be located in an area which would have a high footfall of potential customers.
“The facility will offer benefits to the environment by encouraging the use of refillable bottles and reducing litter and preventing waste in the first instance, as well as having benefits to health by providing tap water.”
