Westport beach, known for its beautiful sandy beaches and rolling Atlantic waves, is a Mecca for holidaymakers and surfers alike.
The area is part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), notified for its special sand dunes.
The dune system there is the largest in mainland Argyll, providing a habitat for butterflies and wildflowers, some of which are not found elsewhere in Kintyre.
Concerns have been raised about littering and occasional irresponsible wild camping at Westport, and the lack of management and meagre facilities for visitors could result in damage to the delicate ecosystem and spoil visitors’ experiences.
A project has been developed through collaboration with Argyll and Bute Council and Scottish National Heritage (SNH) to investigate how the beach is currently used and the potential demand for more facilities.
Social enterprise Inspiralba will lead the project, employing four young people over the summer to conduct a survey on the best way to address the issues and look for opportunities for Westport and the wider community.
This experience will help further the young people's careers both in tourism and conservation as well as help safeguard a beloved scenic spot for both locals and tourists.
Funding has been provided from Fyne Homes, Scottish and Southern Energy and Argyll and Bute Council and SNH will also offer ongoing advice and practical support.
An Inspiralba representative said: 'If you’d like to take part in our survey, keep an eye out for our surveyors at Westport or alternatively take the survey online at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/westportbeachsurvey.'
