Visitors to the Kilmartin Museum can look into the eyes of their ancestors amid a jaw- dropping collection of artefacts exhibits at the newly revamped museum.

 

A Bristol woman is planning a discovery trip to Mull to investigate ties between Scotland and the African slave trade, while hoping to answer questions about her ancestry.

 

In other news, Argyll & Bute Council is urging short-term let holders to submit applications for the new Scottish Government short-term licensing scheme before the Sunday October 1 deadline.

 

Over on Islay, CalMac’s chief executive has explained to a councillor that electric vehicles on the ’Whisky Island’s’ ferries are no more likely to catch fire than other vehicles.

 

Ardgour is also preparing to celebrate the first European Folk Day with a gig on Saturday September 23.

 

Meanwhile, Oban Pride turned the town into a rainbow extravaganza at the weekend, with lots of lovely photographs from that event, plus a sunny spread of the Dalmally Show.

 

In the sport, we celebrate a fantastic achievement by Bob MacIntyre after the Oban golfer was selected to play for Team Europe at the Ryder Cup.

 

There was also medal success for Alison Roger at the Aquabike Championships in Belgium, and a tremendous turnout for the John MacEachen Memorial Trophy at Glencruitten Golf Course.

 

Oban Saints got their football season up and running, while there were strong performances in a busy week for Oban Lorne’s young rugby sides.

 

And the Oban Ravens Squash Team are making their last preparations before they embark on their Big Bootcamp Weekend.
