Association members are grateful for the generosity of more than 100 individuals and businesses who donated to the jetty. The comments have also been encouraging and show, if there was any doubt, how much the jetty means and how important it is to the community, residents and visitors.
Unfortunately, a request for an exemption for a marine licence was rejected by Marine Scotland. Therefore the association applied last month to Marine Scotland for a licence for a construction project to carry out the first phase of essential repairs.
Having already consulted with and having the support of NatureScot, COAST and Kenneth Gibson MSP, the group hopes Marine Scotland will process and approve the application as quickly as possible and earlier than the normal 14 weeks.
An association spokeswoman said: 'Hopefully the work can then be carried out before the winter storms have a chance to cause further damage. Thanks again to everyone who has supported us so far and we look forward to the repairs being completed.'
The Save Our Jetty campaign launched in July this year when it became apparent the 125-year-old jetty was in desperate need of repair.
